Everyone has the same 24-hours in a day, but most people aren’t using their time effectively.  That lost time translates into a loss of direction – and revenue – for entrepreneurs who are doing their best to build their brands.

Meditate

Most people start meditating to reduce stress.  However, there’s plenty of other benefits to sitting quietly and focusing on your breath for 20-minutes a day.  Meditation lengthens your attention span, making it easier to concentrate at work.  It is also said to enhance self-awareness, promote overall emotional health, and generate kindness.

Focus

Get clear on what moves you towards your long-term goals, and dedicate at least an hour a day to uninterrupted work on those tasks.  Turn off emails and social media alerts, and focus on what you want to achieve, rather than the endless distractions that inevitably turn up when you’re running a business.

Exercise

Working up a sweat not only makes you feel good; it increases your energy levels so that you’re able to keep up with the demands of a busy side-hustle or a growing small business.  Being active during the day also has a positive impact on your brain health and memory.  Plus, a little time away from your desk could give you the clarity you need to tackle a specific business challenge.

Establish a Routine

Find a routine that works for you and stick to it.  Think about when you work best, and use that time as effectively as you can.  Maybe that means waking up an hour or so earlier than you usually do to take advantage of the quiet before getting the kids to school, or perhaps you spend a bit of time working in the early evening after dinner.

Delegate

If you feel overwhelmed or unsatisfied with how you spend your time everyday, change it.  See what tasks you can outsource or delegate to one of your employees.  If you haven’t hired someone to help with your business yet, maybe it’s time.

Disconnect

We often think that our smartphone is what keeps us connected to our business and our overall network.  However, it’s also what can prevent us from getting any real work done.  Email and social media, while necessary for business in todays marketplace, are big sources of distraction too.  Schedule times to check on your email and company social media accounts, and silence any alerts.

Work Smarter

Use technology to your advantage.  Apps like Evernote make it easy to capture and prioritize ideas, projects, and to-do lists to ensure nothing slips through the cracks.  Social media scheduling apps like Hootsuite make it possible to automatically schedule hundreds of social media posts at once, so you’ve always got a steady stream of content for your customers.  Taking the time to set up specific goals in Google Analytics allows you to instantly see how your website is performing when you login to your account.

Relax

Getting worked up about what you need to do won’t help you get it done, but it will stress you out.  Be realistic about what you can accomplish in a day, and have compassion for yourself if you can’t cross every last thing off your to-do list.  Being kind to yourself and working in some time for a little self-care is one of the best ways to ensure that you’ll be able to keep a steady, effective pace for the long-term.
